Today we take a moment to thank some of the champions in the United States Senate. In particular, fourteen Senators who went on the record yesterday in support of our industry by voting for an amendment (to a budget bill) that would have ensured that the FDA does not enforce outdated food labeling standards.
PBFA sends a very special thank you to Senators Mike Lee (R-UT) and Cory Booker (D-NJ) for their leadership in authoring the amendment.
We also send our sincere thanks to the following bipartisan group of Senators who went on record in support of our industry: Shelley Moore Capito (WV), Bill Cassidy (R-LA), Bob Corker (R-TN), Ted Cruz (R-TX), Martin Heinrich (D-NM), Bob Menendez (D-NJ), Rand Paul (R-KY), Marco Rubio (R-FL), Brian Schatz (D-HI), Dan Sullivan (R-AK), Pat Toomey (R-PA), and Todd Young (R-IN).
While the amendment failed to pass, we look forward to participating in the FDA’s regulatory process to modernize standards of identity and we are committed to working with the FDA and industry to find a workable resolution to this issue. PBFA recently offered testimony at the FDA’s public meeting on modernizing standards of identity for food labeling, among other topics.
